Growing up, I learned organic gardening from my grandma who had a huge garden where she and grandpa lived, right around the corner from my parents’ house.

One summer day, when I was bored, I asked her for something to do. She sent me out to weed the carrots. If you know anything about growing carrots, you know they have fine, delicate greenery and must be weeded very carefully.
After a bit of time, I went back inside and she asked me how far I got. Much to her surprise, I told her I finished the whole row.
After that, my grandfather called me “The Gardener”, a title I proudly wear to this day. I have my own large, organic garden where I grow cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, basil, zucchini, sweet and hot peppers, zinnias, marigolds, and more.

Extensive fencing keeps out the deer and rabbits but I still haven’t figured out how the box turtles get in. I regularly catch them munching on any low hanging tomatoes.

Especially after going on a raw, living foods diet on 2003, I love eating from the garden where everything is so fresh and tasty. Food is medicine.
When I eat really healthy, clean food, the world sparkles.
I love to paint that sparkle.
Love,
Charlene
